«Our administration and the local executive were respectful during the negotiations; Discussions were relatively quick and we agreed to support our firefighters under the new collective agreement,» said Will Pearce, the city`s governor. I think it`s a good fair deal for members,» said Doug Imrich, president of IAFF Local 1517. «It`s also good for the city and the people.» The new agreement will apply from 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2015. Negotiations will resume in early summer for the post-1 January 2016. The terms of the new collective agreement continue the terms of the previous contract, which expired on December 31, 2015, with the exception of a small number of negotiated clauses and a revised salary scale. The agreement provides for an annual salary increase of 2.5% with retroactive effect from 1 January 2016. The City and Local 1517 of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) have agreed on a four-year collective agreement, retroactive to January 1, 2016, the day after the official expiry of the last contract between the two parties. «The Vernon Professional Fire Fighters Association IAFF Local 1517 is pleased with the new contract that provides a fair wage for members,» said Doug Imrich, President of IAFF 1517. «We are pleased with the way we were able to work together to find a negotiated solution.» «I am pleased to announce that the City and IAFF Local developed a collective agreement in 1517 that meets the needs of both parties,» said Victor Cumming, Mayor of Vernon. «The parties were committed to negotiating an agreement in good faith and were working as a team for the good of the citizens of Vernon.» «I look forward to the city and IAFF Local moving forward in 1517 with the new agreement,» said Will Pearce, administrative director of the city of Vernon. «The salary adjustment is provided for in the budgets for the current year and the previous year. The proposed 2019 budget also contains provisions relating to the agreement, so costs are fully budgeted.» The agreement concerns 28 members of Local 1517, the majority of whom voted in favour of ratification.
